Introductory calls are brief and complimentary

Darrow Jay Thom, M.D.

Board Certified Psychiatrist

Calabasas and surrounding cities.

Private telepsychiatry throughout California.

At certain points in life, the path forward becomes less obvious.

A career changes.

A relationship ends. Children leave home. Priorities shift. What once felt meaningful no longer feels quite the same.

Many people arrive with the same question:

What now?

I work with adults navigating life transitions, illness, anxiety, inattention, and the deeper questions that often emerge during periods of change or in the second half of life.

Care is thoughtful, personalized, and unhurried, creating space to reflect, regain direction, and move forward with purpose.

Becoming

The Renaissance of Mind Perspective

Living brings us one change after another as we grow older.

I believe that how we respond to these changes, in our thoughts and in our actions, shapes our satisfaction and sense of self.

Renewal brings opportunities at every stage. Working together we can cultivate clarity, engagement, and direction amid life’s transitions.

Develop greater resilience and energy as you reconnect with your true inner compass.

My role is to help you clarify your vision for your life and articulate your unique story, as you creatively discover and shape the person you are still becoming.

This perspective guides how I practice psychiatry at Renaissance of Mind.

I invite you to schedule a brief introductory conversation to explore whether Renaissance of Mind may be a good fit.

What to Expect

Getting Started

Beginning care at Renaissance of Mind is designed to feel clear, thoughtful, and unhurried.

Step 1 · Introductory Call (10 to 15 minutes)

A brief, complimentary conversation to understand what you are seeking and whether the practice feels like a good fit.

This is a chance to ask a few initial questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide together whether it makes sense to move forward.

Step 2 · Initial Evaluation (60 to 75 minutes)

A calm, spacious psychiatric evaluation focused on understanding your history, current concerns, strengths, and life context.

This first meeting is designed to clarify what is happening, identify what matters most, and begin planning a thoughtful path forward.

Step 3 · Ongoing Care

If we decide to continue working together, care proceeds through ongoing sessions that may integrate psychotherapy and medication management when helpful.

The work is steady, attentive, and intentionally paced, with a focus on insight, resilience, renewal, and deeper engagement with life.

A Note on Fit

This is a private, outpatient practice for non-urgent psychiatric care.

Some needs are better served in other settings. When appropriate, I will help guide you toward more suitable resources or providers.

You can learn more on the Practice Scope and Fit page.

Take The First Step

Getting started is simple.

Step 1 · Request a Brief Introductory Call

After exploring the website, request a complimentary introductory call.

Using a secure online form, you’ll confidentially share a few basic details and indicate your availability for a call.

Step 2 · Introductory Call

A brief, conversational call to clarify your goals and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

This call is not a medical visit and does not establish a physician–patient relationship.

After the call, one of the following may occur:

  • We move forward with scheduling an Initial Evaluation

  • If availability is limited, you are placed on a priority wait list for an opening

  • If we decide not to proceed, I help guide you toward another resource that may be a better fit

All outcomes are handled thoughtfully and with care.

Step 3 · If We Decide to Move Forward

You’ll complete intake and practice consent forms, financial information, and scheduling through a secure online patient portal (provided by Valant), then select an Initial Evaluation appointment.

This intentional process helps establish a strong foundation for our work.
