About Me

Darrow Jay Thom, M.D.

Board Certified Psychiatrist

Calabasas, California

I believe great psychiatry is both science and art. I founded Renaissance of Mind to offer thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care outside the constraints of insurance-driven models.

Over the years I have had the privilege of working with many adults through moments of change, reflection, and uncertainty in their lives.

My work is guided by an approach I call Psychiatry of Renewal, integrating modern neuroscience, psychotherapy, and thoughtful conversation to help adults navigate life transitions with greater clarity, resilience, and renewed direction.

I work primarily with thoughtful, high-functioning adults experiencing anxiety, attention challenges, and periods of transition. Many people seek care when roles are shifting, priorities are evolving, or the second half of life begins to invite deeper reflection about direction, meaning, and how they want to live the years ahead.

My clinical style combines careful psychiatric evaluation, thoughtful use of medication when appropriate, and insight-oriented psychotherapy. The work focuses not only on symptoms but also on the deeper patterns and life experiences that shape a person’s sense of self and direction. My style is calm, collaborative, and grounded in careful listening.

I completed medical training at Tufts University and my psychiatry residency at Harbor–UCLA Medical Center, and I have decades of experience caring for adults across a range of clinical settings. My work emphasizes careful listening, collaborative thinking, and treatment plans that reflect each person’s life story and goals.

Renaissance of Mind is intentionally structured as a selective private-pay psychiatric practice so that care can remain thoughtful, unhurried, and individualized.

Outside of clinical work, I value time with family, movement, and quiet practices that cultivate presence and perspective.

I am based in Calabasas, California and provide secure telepsychiatry for adults throughout California, with select in-person appointments available when appropriate.

I value thoughtful conversation, intellectual curiosity, and the quiet work of helping people reconnect with what matters most in their lives.
